Ruth Caye Jones, pastor’s wife and mother of five, was burdened by the chaos in her world. One day she was reading in the book of 2 Timothy and came upon these words in chapter 3: This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
Moved by the Holy Spirit, Ruth took paper and pencil from her apron pocket and wrote these words:
In times like these you need a Savior,
In times like these you need an anchor;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
This Rock is Jesus, Yes He’s the One,
This Rock is Jesus, the only One;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
In times like these you need the Bible,
In times like these, O be not idle;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
This Rock is Jesus, Yes He’s the One,
This Rock is Jesus, the only One;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
In times like these I have a Savior,
In times like these I have an anchor;
I’m very sure, I’m very sure
My anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
This Rock is Jesus, Yes He’s the One,
This Rock is Jesus, the only One;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
These words were written over 70 years ago when our world was being ravaged by war. Over 400,000 US soldiers lost their lives in World War II and life seemed dark for those waiting and watching from home.
Could these words be more relevant for us today?
Our world is still rocked by wars and rumors of wars. Acts of terrorism flood the nightly newscasts.
Where is the hope?
What is our foundation? Our anchor?
This Rock is Jesus, Yes He’s the One,
This Rock is Jesus, the only One;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
In these uncertain times, my prayer is that you are leaning and clinging to the Sure Anchor for your soul—Jesus, the Solid Rock.
My friend, Jean Wilund, has a beautiful post—Hope in the Face of Horror. She has included a video of the song, In Christ Alone. I encourage you to check it out.
Let’s continue to pray for our national and world leaders—they need Divine wisdom and guidance more than ever.
And Dear Friend, know this: Even in times of uncertainty, Jesus has provided a way to live lives of abundance and joy.
Praying for peace,
Leigh Ann
